For entertainment there is ADSL broadband internet access by wifi or cable for your laptop, UK freeview satellite colour TV, a DVD player, a radio/cassette/CD player, a selection of books and some games.  Above the dining table is an attractive mezzanine area with sofa bed, easy chairs and books. There are five comfortable bedrooms with new en-suite bath/shower rooms..  The kitchen is light, airy and comprehensively equipped, it has an adjoining laundry/utility room. Alfresco life is easy on the shaded terraces with tables and chairs, plus a barbecue..  This is a family home in the winter and so is equipped to be a "home from home" for its guests.

The village of Valmigère is high in the hills enjoying a wide variety of walks on tracks and trails through fields, heath and woods. Some of the panoramic views towards the Pyrenees are truly breathtaking. Within easy reach there are:

• Arques (6 km) with a boulangerie, post office, general shop &cafe/bar/restaurant, the Chateau or “Donjon” (Dundgeon), a lake for swimming and windsurfing, a river,a tennis court and horse riding.
• Attractive local villages such Missegre, Villardbelle, Bouisse, & Montjoi with its spectacular gorge
• Rennes-le-Chateau with its holy secrets
• The thermal spa of Rennes-les-bains
• The  medieval spa of Alet-lesBains with its casino, tree walking adventure activity area, and watersports on the river.
• The small town of Couiza and neighbouring Esperaza with a dinosaur museum and reknowned Sunday market full of local produce and other ethnic stalls run by colourful rainbow-clothed people.
• Limoux a fine town and home of the sparkling Blanquette de Limoux

The famous medieval city of Carcasonne and also many towns and villages have a variety of festivals and carnivals.  There is so much to see and do, the Cathar Castles, fine shops, artisans, gastronomic delights and the famous wines of the region including Fitou, Minervois, Corbieres and the sparkling Blanquette de Limoux..  Activities such as hiking, fishing, rock climbing, golf, para ponting and many more are available.

For a change, the Pyrenees mountains or Mediterranean beaches are only about an hour and a half away, or visit Spain for a day.

 THE WEATHER

The Languedoc-Roussillon region enjoys some of the highest temperatures in France, but Valmigere is set high in the hills and enjoys comfortable temperatures in the height of summer.  It has a fantastic climate and at 676 metres it enjoys the benefit of a general decrease in air temperatures of by about 1°C per 150m, due not only to low air pressures but also to relatively cleaner air (free of dust particles and pollution) which reduces the amount of diffuse radiation and the heat retaining properties of the air.
